Meet Takalani Sandani

Takalani Sandani started his mining career at Harmony Gold Mines in 2003 and joined Black Wattle Colliery as a Mining Learner Official in 2006. From 2006 to 2022, Takalani has undertaken and completed the following educational training with the support of Black Wattle Colliery and the Department of Mineral Resourse and Energy (“DMRE”):
  • Underground Blasting Certificate (coal) – 2006 (DMRE)
  • B-Tech degree in Mining Engineering – 2008 (University of Johannesburg)
  • Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency – 2010 (DMRE)
  • Opencast blasting Certificate (coal) – 2010 (DMRE)
  • Management Development Programme – 2012 (University of Pretoria)
  • Programme in Project Management – 2015 (University of Pretoria)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration and Management –
    2021 (Gordan Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria)
  • MBA- 2022 (Gordan Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria)

As Takalani’s training has progressed, he has moved up the ranks at Black Wattle Colliery, from an Underground Miner in 2006, to Shift Overseer in 2010, and finally to Mine Manager in 2020. We congratulate Takalani on his educational achievements and career progression to date, including his recent completion of an MBA from the Gordan Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria in 2022.
